Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering is a faith-based partnership that provides a network of care and hospitality for the homeless in our community. InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) is an evangelical campus mission serving students and faculty on college and university campuses nationwide. Its vision at Lehigh is to see students and faculty transformed by Jesus to impact the university.
The Mentoring Program at Nitschmann Middle School and Donegan Elementary School pairs mentors with students. Goals of the program include the development of a close interpersonal relationship, provision of a positive adult role model, and assistance with academics and social skills. Volunteering with New York City Relief Bus is as an opportunity to embody Isaiah 58:9-10, by serving those living in extreme poverty and homelessness. The NYC Relief Bus outreach consists of two former school buses now customized into mobile resource centers to help the poor and homeless in Newark, NJ and NYC. Friendly faces serve up a delicious, hot meal, compassion, and connections to resources that lead to life transformation. For more information, email Jess Manno. New Bethany Ministries is located in the heart of Southside Bethlehem. The mission of New Bethany Ministries is to provide care, services, and facilities to the homeless, the hungry, the mentally ill, and the poor with a level of quality that exceeds that of secular agencies. Serve opportunities are available on the 1st Saturday of each month through Saturday Serve (see above) and the last Saturday of each month. Northeast Ministry’s primary focus is to help the children living in the Marvine/Pembroke public housing community reach their potential in life and break the cycle of dependence by providing them with the personal and spiritual resources to improve the quality of their lives.
Priority One Foundation works to introduce Christ into the lives of men and to challenge them to make Him the foundation of all the priorities in their life. Team Contact: Steve Fessler
ShareCare Faith In Action is a non-profit network of trained volunteers from faith groups and the wider community that provides compassionate and practical services to the elderly and those with special needs to enhance their dignity, independence, and quality of life. Team Contacts: Scott Fogel
Since inception, TFW has reached out to women who are lost, broken, and in need of truth. It operates Truth for Women Center and My Sister’s Closet. Their mission is to transform women from the inside out by confronting life issues such as sex trafficking, through support, education, and advocacy. Team Contacts: Trish Fritz and Tammy Adelsberger
Victory House of the Lehigh Valley addresses the problems of homeless men. The facility provides 24-hour emergency shelter, transitional housing, and supportive services such as counseling, life skills education, medical care, and employment assistance to males who have found themselves displaced due to recent incarceration, mental health or substance abuse issues, or other related dependency problems. Serve opportunities available on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 5:30–7p.m. Team Contacts: Sue Stevens and Bill Stevens.
