Discipleship in the Diaspora

September 9 - 17

Join the Grace Church Bethlehem team on our visit to Nurnberg, Germany. We are in the early years of a sister-church relationship with the Presbyterian Church of Bayern, a congregation of Iranians living in the diaspora of Germany. Most of the congregation are first generation believers. A highlight of the visit includes being involved in their annual church discipleship retreat. We will lend our gifts and talents to serve the children, youth and adults attending, as we grow in faith together.

We will arrive in Germany on Tuesday, September 10. We will stay in Old Town Nurnberg at the Karl August Hotel until Friday, September 13. In the Old Town, we will take some time to explore, meet with our host and make final preparations for the conference.

On Wednesday, September 11, our team will travel to Munich where we will tour the Concentration Camp Memorial in Dachau.

From Friday- Sunday we will stay at a hotel near the retreat center outside Nurnberg, joining our host in leading the conference. The theme of the conference is "Faithful Disciples in a Context of Secularity," focusing on the Old Testament figures of Daniel and Esther. Leaders with experience in children’s and youth ministry, worship music, and adult discipleship are desired to participate in these respective roles, with advance preparation necessary.  General support roles are also available for the retreat.

The conference concludes with Sunday worship, after which we will transition back to Nurnberg, staying at the Holiday Inn Express directly next to the new church property recently purchased by our church partners. Our visit concludes Monday September 16 with a time of vision development with leadership and a Farewell Dinner & Partnership Celebration with the church family.

Monday night we will stay at the Movenpick Hotel adjacent to the Nurnberg Airport for our morning departure on Tuesday, September 17.
