GRACE This Week

Last week, we started our Dear Church sermon series in the Book of Revelation. For the next few weeks, we are looking at letters written to some of the earliest Christian communities, all located in Asia, or Modern Turkey. These letters, from Jesus, are written to specific churches. So, it’s important that we understand the context of each church as we read the letters. But Jesus does not mean for the letters to be private communication just between Jesus and the church. You will see this phrase in each of the letters:

Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches

Notice the first and last words. Whoever…. and Churches not church. Jesus’ word to these churches is not just meant for those churches. It’s meant for all churches. Whoever has ears. This week, we turn to the letters to the churches in Pergamum and Thyatira in my sermon, “Your Teaching.”

To get ready, you might want to read them in advance – Revelation 2:12-28

Look for the pattern I introduced on Sunday for both of the letters:

May we have ears to hear.
